About the Artist Artist Statement Curriculum Vitae

Margaret Ryall

As a teenager, Margaret Ryall spent many hours involved in traditional crafts and drawing and eventually learned to paint. A career in education intervened. For many years her interest in art was displayed through the promotion of visual arts in the elementary schools where she was a teacher and administrator. In 2001, she made a career shift to visual arts, pursuing her new profession with the same energy, enthusiasm and dedication that she displayed as an educator.

Margaret has developed an art practice that is focused and productive. Her work can be found in private and public collections including The Newfoundland and Labrador Art Bank.

Through her work, Margaret wants to evoke a sense of precarious beauty through a close inspection of the ordinary. Discarded artifacts, debris from collapsed buildings, household items and flowers form content in her work. Her subject matter consistently links nature, culture and the passage of time.
